Oban, in the north west of Scotland, was surveyed by the Royal Air Force as a potential base for flying-boat operations in the early 1930's and it's suitability confirmed by exercises with the Home Fleet.

The yacht in the bay was owned by Betty Hutton, Woolworths heiress.
It was sold to "The war effort" for one pound Sterling.
